Ewelina and Tomasz: Partners in resilience

Ewelina and Tomasz Susiak have shared more than two decades together, building a life of mutual respect and trust. This strong foundation became their anchor when Ewelina was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. Facing the unexpected, their shared history helped them navigate the challenges ahead. They’ve learned that resilience comes not from avoiding difficulties but from tackling them as a team.

Facing challenges together

Myasthenia Gravis turned their lives upside down, forcing them to adjust to a new normal. With grown-up children who no longer require constant attention, Ewelina and Tomasz have redefined their family dynamics. Tomasz took on extra practical responsibilities, from household tasks to providing moral support. Ewelina describes him as her unshakable pillar, a steady presence who keeps her grounded even during difficult days. “My husband always shows me the way,” she says, “reminding me that no matter the challenges you face, the most important thing is to take it step by step, even if they’re tiny baby steps, even if you have to crawl.”

The couple found strength in celebrating small victories. When dealing with chronic illnesses like Myasthenia Gravis, it is easy to get swept up in negativity. Keeping a journal of your Myasthenia Gravis journey could be a great tool to learn to appreciate the little things more.

Advice for couples navigating a chronic illness

Ewelina and Tomasz believe that adapting to life with a chronic illness begins with acceptance. It takes time to process a diagnosis and adjust to a new reality. There’s no quick fix but with mutual support, patience, and understanding, even the toughest changes can be overcome. For Ewelina and Tomasz, living with the disease is not just about enduring challenges. It’s about creating a new way of life, one that values compassion and perseverance.
